University College of Engineering, Nagercoil (UCEN) Admission Guide 2026

Admissions to the University College of Engineering, Nagercoil (UCEN) are handled transparently and strictly follow merit rankings. As a constituent college of Anna University, Chennai, UCEN does **not operate any separate Management Quota, NRI Quota, or Direct Institutional Seats**. 100% of its intake is surrendered to the centralized state pools.

For the 2026-2027 academic session, undergraduate allocations are managed via the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA 2026) portal based entirely on normalized Class 12 board marks. Postgraduate entry routes are separately determined by the TANCET 2026 scorecard.

1. B.E. / B.Tech Admissions via TNEA

The primary engineering intake structure relies on the single-window centralized counseling managed by the Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE), Tamil Nadu.

• Core Eligibility: Candidates must have successfully cleared the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC Academic/Vocational) or equivalent examination. The core combinations must include Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM).
• Minimum Qualifying Marks:
  • General Category (OC): Minimum aggregate of 45.00% marks in PCM.
  • Reserved Categories (BC / BCM / MBC / DNC / SC / SCA / ST): Minimum aggregate of 40.00% marks in PCM.
• The Selection Metric: Admissions are calculated on a maximum **TNEA Cutoff Scale of 200 marks**. Your raw scores in Mathematics (out of 100), Physics (out of 50), and Chemistry (out of 50) are summed up to construct state-wide merit ranks. No entrance exams (like JEE Main) are required for standard state quota seats.
• Nativity Benchmarks: Tamil Nadu native candidates who completed schooling from Class 8 to 12 within the state are fully eligible without producing extra certificates. Non-native students must upload a valid electronic nativity certificate indicating their parent's state domicile.

2. Step-by-Step TNEA Counseling Workflow

Prospective applicants looking to lock their seats at UCEN must actively track stages on the official TNEA engine:

3. Post-Graduate (MBA) Admission

For the 60-seat Masters of Business Administration layout available at the UCEN campus, the admission framework is entirely distinct from the engineering path:

• Prerequisite: Possession of an undergraduate degree from a recognized university with a minimum aggregate score of 50% (45% for reserved classes).
• Entrance Gateway: Shortlisting and subsequent counseling rounds rely entirely on scores obtained in the centralized TANCET 2026 examination.

4. Cutoff Analysis & Closing Ranks (Reference)

Due to high demand for government-funded constituent college slots, the closing ranks vary heavily across branches. Below are general closing cutoff rank benchmarks for Open Competition (OC) and Backward Classes (BC) across primary specializations during recent counseling rounds:

• BE Computer Science and Engineering (CSE): Closing rank ranges around 38,000 to 41,500
